Razzano moves on in Strasbourg

05/18/2010 - Strasbourg, France (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Third-seeded French crowd favorite Virginie Razzano highlighted Tuesday's opening-round winners at the $220,000 Strasbourg International, a final French Open tune-up.

Razzano held off Taipei's Kai-Chen Chang 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on the red clay here.

Four other seeds joined Razzano in the second round, as No. 5 Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues whipped Czech Sandra Zahlavova 6-1, 6-0; No. 6 Austrian Sybille Bammer overcame French wild card Pauline Parmentier 2-6, 6-4, 7-5; No. 7 Latvian Anastasija Sevastova subdued Colombian qualifier Mariana Duque Marino 6-1, 6-1; and No. 8 Brit Elena Baltacha topped Romanian qualifier Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 7-5.

Meanwhile, last year's Strasbourg runner-up, Czech Lucie Hradecka, handled France's Julie Coin 7-5, 6-2. Hradecka succumbed to French favorite Aravane Rezai in last year's finale here.

Additional Day-2 wins came for French wild card Kristina Mladenovic, Austrian Yvonne Meusburger, Germans Julia Goerges and Kristina Barrois, Swede Sofia Arvidsson, and Bulgarian qualifier Dia Evtimova.

In the second round here on Wednesday, top-seeded former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova will take on the little-known Evtimova.

This week's champion will collect $37,000.
