U.S. splits singles matches with Spain

Robby Ginepri was called on by the U.S. to replace this year's ATP aces leader John Isner, who was forced to pull out here on Tuesday due to an arm injury.

A doubles match will decide the USA-Spain winner here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the host Germans grabbed a 1-0 Blue Group lead against Argentina on Day 3, as Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4.

France is tied 1-1 with Serbia after Tuesday's singles rubbers.

Paul-Henri Mathieu won his first match on clay this season to hand France an advantage, as he topped Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-2, 6-3. Viktor Troicki then pulled the Serbs even with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jeremy Chardy in the Blue Group.

The reigning champion Serbs doused the host Germans in last year's finale here.

The Czech Republic continued its fine Blue Group start here when Jan Hajek drubbed Aussie Peter Luczak 6-1, 6-2.

The winners of this week's round-robin groups will meet in the final on Saturday.

The French Open will get underway Sunday in Paris.
